Celebrate International Archaeology Day and bring history to life at the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology’s Passport to People Family Day. The in-person event is set for Saturday, Oct. 9, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the museum at The University of New Mexico.

This indoor/outdoor event will take place in the Maxwell courtyard and museum following COVID safe practices. Timed-entry, small group tours will be available to visit the museum.

Your passport is your ticket to fun! Faculty and staff from the Anthropology Department and Maxwell Museum will talk about their work and answer visitor questions. Visitors can watch a live tool-making demonstration. Try your hand at being an archaeologist through experiential activities and craft projects to keep. Collect stamps at each activity station to earn a goodie bag to take home. Enjoy pre-packaged refreshments.

The staff, students, and volunteers at the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology work together to study, preserve, partner, and present the human story from our origins more than 2.5 million years ago to today.

UNM is following federal and state guidelines for COVID-19 and participants understand and assume the risks with attending in-person events during the pandemic. Masks must be worn by all individuals at all times while in the museum and other indoor spaces on campus. The museum reserves the right to cancel any programs if guidance on the pandemic discourages group visitation.

The Maxwell Museum of Anthropology is now open to visitors . Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Maxwell parking is free and parking is free on the UNM campus on weekends. The Maxwell Museum of Anthropology is located on the northwest part of the UNM campus, near the intersection of University and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevards.
