Research Professor Dr. David A. Phillips served as Curator of Archaeology in the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology from 2003-2015, and Interim Director of the Maxwell Museum from 2015-2018.  Since his retirement in 2018 he has continued to edit the Maxwell Museum Technical Reports and to support the Museum in myriad ways.

Summary of Archaeological Career

Born and raised in Latin America; fluent in Spanish. Active in archaeology for 50 years, including 41 years as a Ph.D. Has worked as a field crew member, lab analyst, field and lab supervisor, project director, principal investigator, and program director. His field experience was primarily in New Mexico and Arizona but has included Colorado, Texas, Florida, California, and Mexico (Quintana Roo and Chihuahua).
Field experience in the North American Southwest includes the Ancestral Pueblo (Anazasi), Mogollon, Hohokam, Patayan, and Casas Grandes cultures of the Ceramic period, as well as the Historic period. Related skills include technical editing and report production.
