Each year the Maxwell Museum sponsors buses for Title One Albuquerque Public Schools to experience the museum, its exhibits and offerings, and University of New Mexico's beautiful campus. Provided on a lottery basis, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classes from a Title One APS elementary school are invited to visit our museum for a docent-led Peoples of the Southwest tour, as well as exploration of the museum and University of New Mexico's beautiful campus. The entire visit is free.
Each bus can transport up to 60 students (or about two classes), plus teachers and chaperones (at least 4 chaperones/teachers per group of 30). Each school is eligible for one bus.
This lottery is open to 3rd - 5th grade teachers from APS Title One schools and will close at noon on Friday, September 2, 2022. Selected schools will be notified by the following week, at which point we can start scheduling tours! Student visits at the museum are scheduled Tuesday - Friday, 10 am - 1 pm, October 11, 2022 through May 12, 2023.
UNM is following federal and state guidelines for COVID-19. We ask that participants understand the risks they assume when attending in-person events during the pandemic. Currently, masks are encouraged to be worn by all individuals at all times while in the museum and other indoor spaces on campus. If guidance on the pandemic discourages group visitation, the museum reserves the right to cancel any programs, and schools will be notified accordingly. Thank you for your understanding as we all continue to navigate this challenge together!
