Location:

The Maxwell Museum is located east of University Blvd. between Las Lomas Rd. and Dr. M. L. King Jr. Ave. See below for detailed directions.

Parking:

Limited parking is available just west of the museum, parallel to University Blvd. Parking permits are available at the Museum front desk or the Museum store. Paid parking areas are west of the Museum adjacent to permitted spaces and north of Las Lomas Rd.

Accessibility

Maxwell Museum is accessible to the mobility impaired and persons with disabilities. For those requiring special services, please call: 2774405 one week in advance.

Shopping and Food

Shop at the Museum Store for locally produced and Fair Trade items, the store also features a selection of books on a range of anthropological topics. There are food concessions on campus and restaurants across Central Avenue. Shop at our Museum Store for books, gifts and art from around the world.

Taking Pictures

Photographyis allowed on the first floor of the Museum in the Ancestors and People of the Southwest exhibitions. We ask that you please refrain from taking photographs of the ceramic vessels on the 2nd floor. We are currently reviewing our exhibits to ensure the remova of culturally sensitive objects. Photography restrictions are posted for current exhibits. No tripods or lighting are allowed without special permission. For information call:505 2774405

Directions to the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology

From the South:

Take I-25 northbound to Exit 224B (Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue) and make a right, turning east onto Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue (MLK).  Proceed east up the hill.  After passing through the intersection of University Blvd you will have entered the University of New Mexico, and MLK will dead-end.  Make a left, turning north, onto Redondo Drive.  Proceed about 300 feet—the Maxwell Museum will be on the east side of Redondo on the right side of the street.

From the North:

Take I-25 southbound to Exit 224B (Dr Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue) and make a left, turning east onto Dr Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue (MLK)—be sure to be in the second lane from the left before turning and after turning remain in the right lane while going under the freeway. Proceed east up the hill.  After passing through the intersection of University Blvd you will have entered the University of New Mexico, and MLK will dead-end.  Make a left, turning north, onto Redondo Drive.  Proceed about 300 feet—the Maxwell Museum will be on the east side of Redondo on the right side of the street.

From the East:

Take I-40 westbound to Exit 159B (Interstate 25 southbound).  Remain on I-25 southbound to Exit 224B (Dr Martin Luther King Jr Avenue) and make a left turn onto Dr Martin Luther King Jr Avenue (MLK)—be sure to be in the second lane from the left before turning and after turning remain in the right lane while going under the freeway. Proceed east up the hill.  After passing through the intersection of University Blvd you will have entered the University of New Mexico, and MLK will dead-end.  Make a left, turning north, onto Redondo Drive.  Proceed about 300 feet—the Maxwell Museum will be on the east side of Redondo on the right side of the street.

From the West:

Take I-40 eastbound to Exit 159C (Interstate 25 southbound).  Remain on I-25 southbound to Exit 224B (Dr Martin Luther King Jr Avenue) and make a left turn onto Dr Martin Luther King Jr Avenue (MLK)—be sure to be in the second lane from the left before turning and after turning remain in the right lane while going under the freeway. Once you get close:

Visitor parking is located in the small strip parking lot on the west side of the building. Follow the sidewalk on the south side of the building to the entrance to the museum.
