Throwback Thursday: Maxwell Museum Exhibitions

In the nearly 50 years since the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology has been in its present location, the Museum has hosted approximately 150 temporary exhibitions. Over the next few weeks, we will look back at some of them

Beyond Borders: An International Archaeological Program in the Casas Grandes Region of Mexico ran from December 2006 to May 2007. The exhibition celebrated the 1994 launching of what would become a multi-decade US-Mexican collaborative project on the archaeology of the Casas Grandes region of northern Mexico and southern New Mexico, conducted by archaeologists from the Instituto Nacional de Antropología y Historia (INAH), UNM, and the Museum of New Mexico.  In addition to featuring objects from the Maxwell Museum collections, visitors were treated to public lectures by project participant and then Laboratory of Anthropology Director Dr. Timothy Maxwell and Curator of Archaeology Dr. David Phillips, as well as a members tour to the sites of Paquimé, Casas de Fuego, the Angastora rock art site, and the potting village of Mata Ortiz.
