Join us on May 13 for the opening of the Maxwell Museum's exhibition: Cuneiform and Cultural Heritage: Writing, New Ways of Being, and Displaced Artifacts.

Among the earliest forms of written records, tablets inscribed in cuneiform ("wedge-shaped") script provide insights into the economic, political, social and religious lives of ancient Mesopotamians, the inhabitants of the land between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers in modern Iraq, Iran, Syria, and Turkey. This exhibition tells the story of a small set of tablets in the Maxwell Museum collections. It examines what the tablets tell us about ancient life in Mesopotamia, while also exploring their more recentl global circulation as a result of archaeological expeditions, looting, and heritage destruction.

Please join us for opening remarks by exhibit curator Dr. Carla Sinopoli (Maxwell Museum Director) and a reception in the exhibit gallery.
